Eel smooth trigger pull in double action helps keep the sights on target. The clean light break in single action makes the Classic Model 27 one of the finest revolvers on the market. The ability to shoot a variety of .38 loads up to the hyper-penetrating .357 magnum makes it one of the most versatile handguns for sport, personal defense, law enforcement, and military use. I always carried a K Frame S&W in a shoulder holster under my BDU blouse.
And this is where the Classic Model 27 outshines other .357 magnums: with the beefy S&W N Frame. You can feed the Model 27 a steady diet of magnum rounds without beating the gun to death. It will stand the gaff and say, "Bring it!"
A feature of the Classic Model 27 that sets it apart from other contemporary Model 27s is the grips. The classic streamline contour of the wood grips provides something larger grips designed to absorb recoil can't offer - agility. To use any double action revolver accurately requires an ergonomic design for proper grip as the index finger glides through the full length of trigger pull. I have three S&W and two Colt double action revolvers, but the grips on the Classic Model 27 are by far the most ergonomically compatible grips for accurate double action use.
